For our original Exchange disaster recovery system using a SAN, we were replicating everything at a remote site, so we had to purchase twice as much equipment as we really needed. With AppAssure’s Replay, I don't have to have the same equipment at both sites. I can use my existing server hardware at the remote site and bring in newer, higher performing servers here.

High Availability

Solutions that ensure high levels of system availability have traditionally been costly, hard to implement, and difficult to manage. With the advent of virtualization technologies, disaster recovery and high availability capabilities can be decoupled from the underlying hardware, which dramatically reduces infrastructure costs and improves infrastructure utilization.

High Availability with VirtualHATM Capabilities

With the Replay VirtualHA feature, you can:

Continually provide highly available virtual Exchange environments directly from production physical Exchange environments.
Reduce infrastructure costs dramatically by eliminating duplicate hardware.
Guarantee that the Standby server is Exchange-corruption free.
Provide quick and easy testing of DR preparedness.

Prevent Unplanned Downtime

Virtual High Availability

Replay VirtualHA automatically transitions the Exchange server to a virtualized DR environment, whether it’s running on physical equipment or within a virtual machine. Replay validates the application data by continually performing Exchange data-store mountability checks. It then replays the changes, block by block, from the Replay recovery server into a virtualized environment, so that Exchange service can be restored to users with a simple reboot of the virtual machine. The current version of Replay supports VMware running under Virtual Server. ESX support will be available in the next release.

Ensure Rapid Recovery from Outages

Replay VirtualHA makes possible rapid restart and failover of Exchange environments without the cost or complexity of solutions used with physical disaster-recovery infrastructures. Since virtual machines are hardware-independent and can share physical resources, Exchange failover can be implemented without requiring dedicated, identical standby hardware and the added complexity of maintaining identical configurations.

Leverage Existing Storage Infrastructures

Replay VirtualHA utilizes existing SAN replication technologies to move the newly created and updated virtual machines to a disaster recovery site. Replay ensures that the recovery server instances are ready to take over in the time it takes to replicate any changes made to the virtual machines and boot up. Replay works equally well in VMware Hosted Exchange environments.

High Availability with HotStandby

High Availability with HotStandby

Like Replay VirtualHA, Replay’s HotStandby feature automatically transitions the Exchange server to a hot standby DR environment. It validates the application data and then replays the changes, block by block for all of the volumes, from the Replay recovery server. But unlike the VirtualHA feature, Replay’s HotStandby feature unwinds the recovery point into a standby physical or virtual machine booted into the Replay Recovery Console. Both high availability options ensure rapid recovery from outages.

With the Replay HotStandby feature, you can:

Continually provide highly available Exchange environments directly from production physical Exchange environments.
Guarantee that the Standby server is Exchange-corruption free.
Provide quick and easy testing of DR preparedness.
