MOVING THE REPLAY REPOSITORY

MOVING REPLAY REPOSITORY TO A NEW VOLUME ON THE SAME REPLAY CORE

  1. Provision the repository volume on the new Replay Core.
  2. Stop the “Replay Core” and the “Replay Agent” service on the Replay Core and the protected servers respectively.
  3. Exit all Windows-based programs.
  4. On the Replay Core
    1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    2. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
    3. Navigate and locate and then click the following registry subkey
    4. HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure\ReplayEPS\AGENT-NAME that corresponds to the volume containing the repository of the protected server that needs to be relocated. The AGENT_NAME value will correspond to the name of the protected server.
    5. Copy or move the TevoRepository directory to the new volume using a fast copy tool such as Microsoft RoboCopy or RichCopy. The TevoRepository should be at the root of the new volume and the directory matching the name of the protected server should appear under TevoRepository.
    6. In the right pane, right-click “target_path” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    7. In the Value data box, change the drive letter to reflect the drive letter of the new volume, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “I:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME” to “F:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME”)
    8. Next navigate to HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure\ReplayEPS\AGENT-NAME\ProtectionGroups\VolWithIntervalXXMinutes
    9. In the right pane, right-click “target_path” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    10. In the Value data box, change the drive letter to reflect the drive letter of the new volume, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “I:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME” to “F:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME”)
    11. If the volume contains repository for more than one protected server, repeat tasks a – k for all protected servers.
    12. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor
  5. On the Replay Agent,
    1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    2. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
    3. Navigate and locate and then click the following registry subkey HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure\ReplayEPS\AGENT-NAME that corresponds to the volume containing the repository of the protected server that needs to be relocated. The AGENT_NAME value will correspond to the name of the protected server
    4. In the right pane, right-click “target_path” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    5. In the Value data box, change the drive letter to reflect the drive letter of the new volume, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “I:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME” to “F:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME”)
    6. Next navigate to HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure\ReplayEPS\AGENT-NAME\ProtectionGroups\VolWithIntervalXXMinutes
    7. In the right pane, right-click “target_path” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    8. In the Value data box, change the drive letter to reflect the drive letter of the new volume, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “I:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME” to “F:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME”)
    9. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor
    10. If the volume contains multiple protected servers then perform the above tasks of drive letter replacement on all protected servers. Repeat tasks a – i.
  6. Start the “Replay Core” and the “Replay Agent” service on the Replay Core and the protected servers respectively

MOVING REPLAY REPOSITORY TO A NEW SERVER

  1. Provision the new Replay Core on the network. Ensure that both the source and the target Replay Core servers are running identical versions of the released software
  2. Stop the “Replay Core” and the “Replay Agent” service on the Replay Core and the protected servers respectively.
  3. Exit all Windows-based programs.
  4. On the source Replay Core
    1. Export the registry hive using the command
      > Reg export HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure c:\appassure.reg
    2. Copy the appassure.reg file to the target server.
    3. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    4. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
    5. Navigate and locate and delete the registry subkey HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure\ReplayEPS\AGENT-NAME that corresponds to the volume containing the repository of the protected server that needs to be relocated.
    6. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor
  5. On the new Replay Core
    1. Import the registry key using the command
      >Reg import c:\appassure.reg
    2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
    4. Navigate and locate and then click the following registry subkey HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure\ReplayEPS\AGENT-NAME that corresponds to the volume containing the repository of the protected server that needs to be relocated. The AGENT_NAME value will correspond to the name of the protected server/
    5. Copy or move the TevoRepository directory from the source Replay Core to the new Replay using a fast copy tool such as Microsoft RoboCopy or RichCopy.     9. In the right pane, right-click “target_path” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    10. In the Value data box, change the drive letter to reflect the drive letter of the new volume, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “I:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME” to “F:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME”)
    11. In the right pane, right-click “target_machine” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    12. In the Value data box, change the Replay Core server name to reflect the new Replay Core server name, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “R1-W2K8-X64” to “R1-W2K8-X64”)
    13. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor
  6. On the Replay Agent
    1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    2. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
    3. Navigate and locate and then click the following registry subkey HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure\ReplayEPS\AGENT-NAME that corresponds to the volume containing the repository of the protected server that needs to be relocated. The AGENT_NAME value will correspond to the name of the protected server
    4. In the right pane, right-click “target_path” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    5. In the Value data box, change the drive letter to reflect the drive letter of the new volume, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “I:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME” to “F:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME”)
    6. Next navigate to HKLM\Software\Dell AppAssure\ReplayEPS\AGENT-NAME\ProtectionGroups\VolWithIntervalXXMinutes
    7. In the right pane, right-click “target_path” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    8. In the Value data box, change the drive letter to reflect the drive letter of the new volume, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “I:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME” to “F:\TevoRepository\AGENT-NAME”)
    9. In the right pane, right-click “target_machine” in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    10. In the Value data box, change the Replay Core server name to reflect the new Replay Core server name, and then click OK. ((For e.g. “R1-W2K8-X64” to “R1-W2K8-X64”)
    11. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor
    12. To move more than one protected server to a new Replay Core, repeat tasks a – j for each protected server
  7. Start the “Replay Core” service on the source and target Replay Core and the “Replay Agent” service on the the protected servers respectively
  8. If the volume contains multiple servers then perform the above tasks of drive letter replacement for all protected servers.
