Recovery Point Verifier Tool

In an ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction, AppAssure Software, Inc. has developed a Recovery Point Verifier Tool that helps customers identify unhealthy snapshots within a core repository. The tool runs against any set of Replay recovery points to detect source disk issues (chkdsk), corruption caused by TxF or issues that may complicate a restoration. Future releases of Replay beginning in release 4.7 will perform a nightly check on the latest recovery point for Agent-side disk errors with chkdsk.

Downloading the Recovery Point Verifier Tool

To download the Recovery Point Verifier Tool CLICK HERE, and then extract and run the appropriate file.

  • For 32-Bit Replay Core, run the RpVerifier.exe located in the win32 folder.
  • For 64-Bit Replay Core, run the RpVerifier.exe located in the x64 folder.
  • For Replay Cores running on Windows XP, run the RpVerifier.exe located in the winxp folder.

Running the Recovery Point Verifier Tool

The rpverifier executable file allows you specify which recovery points are examined during the verification process. Choose from the following options:

  • Verify the most recent recovery point for each volume.

Note: This option is the preferred method.

  • Manually specify recovery points by agent.
  • Verify all recovery points.

Note: The time it takes to verify all recovery points is dependent on the size of the Replay repository and may take an extended period of time for analysis.

Verifying the Most Recent Recovery Point for Each Volume

1. The preferred method for verifying the recovery points is to use the Verify Most Recent RecoveryPoint for each Volume option. Double-click the rpverifier.exe file to start the Recovery Point Verifier Tool and to identify all Agents and recovery points.

2. Once the Recovery Point Verifier Tool identifies all of the Agents and recovery points for a given core, select the recovery points and Agents to be verified. By default, all Agents and all recovery points are selected for the core. To run the tool for only the most recent snapshot, deselect all but the most recent recovery point as well as the required Agent(s), and then click Run Verifier. The Recovery Point Verifier will examine the most recent recovery points for all Agents and all volumes that are protected by Replay Core.

Note: The Recovery Point Verifier Tool targets directories where software has been installed. Download directories are excluded.

3. If the Recovery Point Verifier Tool identifies that the snapshot of agents and volumes are healthy, the volumes will be flagged as Passed. If the tool identifies the snapshot to be unhealthy, resynchronize the volume or force a base image.

4. Perform a customized verification session for select recovery points and agents by selecting the Manually specify recovery points by agent option. Verify the entire repository of recovery points by selecting the Verify all recovery points option.

Taking the Next Step

If the Recovery Point Verification Tool identifies a snapshot as being unhealthy, resynchronization of the volume or a base image will be needed. From the Replay Console, select Force Resync or Force Base Image options as appropriate for the volume.
